Classroom and Outdoor Education (Elementary - High School)

Altacal members and volunteers provide in-classroom education through entertaining and interactive presentations, and through outdoor real-life experiences. Students learn about the local birds, their habits and habitats, and how they all fit into the ecosystem.

Scholarships

Altacal Audubon encourages our local youth to become stewards of the environment by providing scholarships for their continuing education in one of the natural or environmental sciences or for Bird/Nature Camps. We hope that our scholarships will help students gain knowledge and skills that will allow them to help protect the birds, animals, and environment. We have several scholarship options available for different age groups!

Free Field Trips & Tours (Free and open to the public)

We are attempting to add field trips back in to our schedule, and the Oxidation Ponds field trips are the first since the Lassen Volcanic National Park campout. We are limiting the trips to this site to 6 people besides the leader. We announce them on Facebook, so please follow Altacal Audubon Society if you want to find our trips. They are often impromptu trips set up with only a few days’ notice. Since the trips are limited, they fill up quickly so we usually don’t have time to get them on our webpage. If you would like to be notified about upcoming field trips by email, sign up by sending your email to Jared with “Field Trip List” in the subject line.

Volunteer Research

Get involved with the community and learn about birds by taking part in volunteer survey and research projects with us. Altacal collaborates with volunteers to data on local wildlife while offering opportunities for hands-on experience and education, all while contributing to broader scientific research projects!
