Trip Reports

September 17  - Trip to the Packer Unit, Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge (SRNWR) – Altacal members were among those participating in a birding trip organized by the Chico State Birding Club on the morning of September 17th.  It was held at the recently re-opened Packer Unit of the SRNWR ( http://www.sacramentoriver.org ).  Over 60 species were spotted.  Highlights included superb views of a dark morph Swainson’s Hawk and seeing seven different warbler species (Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Black-throated Gray Warbler, Wilson's Warbler and McGillivray's Warbler).  The group also checked out the Llano Seco Unit of the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge which, in its current waterless state, yielded few bird sightings.  One exception was a few good looks at a Say’s Phoebe.
