All of our field trips are open to beginning birders. Anyone with a sense of wonder is welcome to participate.
October 7-9 - Fall Vagrants at Point Reyes – We'll camp at Samuel P. Taylor State Park Friday and Saturday night. Our first stop will be at Point Reyes Visitor Center Saturday morning for a hike along the Earthquake Trail and to pick up a copy of the Field Checklist of Birds for Point Reyes National Seashore ($2.50). We'll then bird the outer Peninsula to the Lighthouse, Fish Docks, and Drakes Beach. Then we’ll move on to the Historic Ranches. Sunday we'll drive toward Tomales Bay State Park and Abbott’s Lagoon. Bring camping gear, money for site and carpooling. Leaders: Jennifer Patten and Gaylord Grams. October 22, Saturday – Oroville – Cottonwood Rd./ Nelson Rd./Thermalito Afterbay – 7:30 to 11 - Meet at the Chico Park ‘n Ride on Rt. 32 (the lot nearest the freeway). We'll look for waterfowl, grebes, shorebirds and gulls at the Thermalito Afterbay, raptors in the Cottonwood and Nelson Road areas, and whatever else we can coax into view! October 29, Saturday - Mendocino National Forest Genetic Resource and Conservation (“Tree Improvement”) Center, 8:30 to noon – Meet at the Chico Park ‘n Ride on Rt. 32 (the lot nearest the freeway). Bring binoculars, water, and a snack. We will scout out the trails for wintering birds and enjoy the spectacular autumn colors. Gaylord Grams (872-0739) will lead the walk. Rain cancels.
