All of our field trips are open to beginning birders.  Anyone with a sense of wonder is welcome to participate.

Saturday, June 11- Concow Lake. We'll meet at the Chico Park & Ride (west lot nearest freeway) at 7 AM and head up to the Concow area (east of Paradise, west of HWY 70) in search of birds and other wildlife inhabiting the lake, old growth forest, and other habitats within the area. Saturday-Sunday, June 25-26 – Willow Lake. Willow Lake lies just outside of Lassen Park and is a beautiful spot for birding.  We will meet at the Chico Park & Ride (the west lot nearest the freeway) at 8 AM Saturday and carpool to Willow Lake.  Those who do not want to camp can just join us for the day on Saturday, or join us on Sunday morning.  We will take several short hikes around the lake area and up to the geysers in Lassen Nation Park, or you can just stay in camp and let the birds come to you.  Those who camp need their own provisions.  Contact Phil Johnson at pjohnsonhardwood@sunset.net or 893-3222 or Gaylord Grams at 872-0739 to make arrangements.

Saturday-Sunday, July 9-10 - Sierra Valley/Yuba Pass. This trip covers a variety of mountain habitats.  We will bird the marshes and open fields at the headwaters of the Feather River, the sagebrush lowlands of the Sierra Valley, and the conifer woodlands of Yuba pass.  This trip always gives us a good variety of birds.  We will meet at the Park & Ride at 7:30 AM on Saturday and carpool up to the area. Friday, July 15 (evening) - Sacramento River Yellow-billed Cuckoo hunt. Meet at the Park & Ride (west lot nearest freeway) at 5:30pm. We will bird several spots along the river (using tape recorded calls) in search of the elusive Yellow-billed Cuckoo.  Limit  seven people.  Must contact Phil at pjohnsonhardwood@sunset.net or 893-3222 to get a spot on this trip.

Saturday-Sunday, August 20-21 - Lassen National Park.  Beat the heat and head for the high country. We will meet at the Park & Ride (west lot nearest freeway) at 7:30 AM on Saturday and carpool We will get a group campsite and take short hikes in various Park locations.  You can join us on the hikes, or lounge in camp and let the birds come to you. Contact Phil Johnson pjohnsonhardwood@sunset.net or 893-3222 to coordinate camping.  Some folks may want to go up on Friday night to extend the trip, so please call first.
