March 7-9 - Honey Lake. We will leave the Chico Park & Ride at 5 p.m. on Friday and spend the night in Susanville. Saturday we’ll be up before dawn to be at the sage grouse lecking grounds for the mating ritual. The rest of the day will be spent birding the Honey Lake basin waterfowl habitats and adjoining sage scrubland. Sunday will be spent in montaine regions bordering Honey Lake and at various spots along the drive home. A great trip for raptors and waterfowl. Due to the logistics of this trip, please contact Phil Johnson (trip leader) at 893-3222 a few days prior to the trip to coordinate travel and sleeping arrangements. Saturday, March 29 – Genetic Resource Center (AKA Tree Improvement Center). Kathryn Hood will lead a walk ideal for beginners, but appropriate for more experienced birders as well. Expect to see a variety of passerines and raptors. Meet at 8:00 at Chico Park & Ride. |
