May 25 - Spring Trail Day at Stone Lakes NWR. Spring is in the air at Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Enjoy the self-guided hike to the wildlife viewing platform, where you'll go through grasslands and then along a newly leafed riparian corridor bordering wetlands. You may see birds of prey cruising overhead in search of mice, snakes, and other prey, and catch a glimpse of our feathered friends in spring migration. The refuge will be open on Saturday, May 25 from 9 and gates close at 3. Docents will be in hand to answer questions and offer viewing tips. All trail days are free. For updates, please call 916/775-4420. To reach the refuge take I5 to Elk Grove Blvd., turn west, and park - the refuge is adjacent to the highway. If it's rainy/muddy, bring a slicker and watertight shoes or boots.
