As some of you may know, National Audubon has recently slashed the funding received by local chapters. As a result, Altacal needs to consider some cost-cutting options with regard to the newsletter until additional funding sources become available. As editor, I consider the avoidance of overspending to be one of my primary responsibilities (one which is often at-odds with the production of a quality product for our members). I've kept this newsletter issue short, while the board makes plans on what to do to conserve our limited funds while increasing our income so that we can resume giving you longer newsletters, if possible!

The newsletter printing & distribution is by far our largest expense. It cost us over $2500 to print & mail the newsletter last year. This year, we received only $1050 from National Audubon for our local funding. This amount will be reduced even further over the next 2 years. We are attempting to generate additional revenue, and will keep our membership posted on the progress of these additional revenue sources (we're pretty excited about them!).
