At the regular meeting of the Board of Directors on June 6, 2001, the Board will consider an amendment to Section 4, Article VI of the Bylaws to delete the requirement that the Vice President shall assume that office with the expectation that he or she will be a nominee for the succeeding Presidency.

The reason for this is to make it easier to find volunteers who are willing to take on the task of being vice-president, without necessarily having the responsibility (and time commitment) of becoming president on the succeeding term - the two offices require quite different skills, and there's not a good reason to make one dependent on the other.
