Tricolored Blackbird California 2000 Statewide Census. Saturday, April 22, 2000. Help define the current distribution and abundance of this imperiled species, the most highly colonial terrestrial land bird in North America, a title that used to belong to the now-extinct Passenger Pigeon. Professional investigators, including UC Davis's Bill Hamilton and Liz Cook, who are looking at the fate of colonies and their habitats, will follow up your observations.
