Trip Reports

Tule Lake - September 17-19, 1999. The group consisted of 4 people who saw 84 species. Friday night provided the group with their only Great Horned Owl. Early Saturday morning, Townsend's Solitaires and Robins provided us with our morning songs. A single Pinyon Jay raucously announced his arrival just before our departure from Lava Beds Campground. The road to the lake was quite busy with White-crowned Sparrows and some intermittent sightings of Vesper and Chipping Sparrows. The roadside environment also yielded Juniper Titmouse, Sage Thrasher and a Kestrel. The lake it self treated us to wonderful looks at Clark's and Western Grebes, Coots, Mallards, Gadwalls, American Widgeon, and Canvasbacks.

Several spots gave us great looks at American white Pelicans, Great Egrets and Foresters Terns. The headquarters area was active with warblers. We saw Nashville, MacGillivrays, Yellow, Wilson's, Orange-crowned and Yellow-rumped Warblers and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

Sunday only two of us ventured to the Lower Klamath Refuge where we added Cinnamon and Green-winged Teal, Snowy Egret and Golden Eagle.
