The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge will be hosting a number of special events in observance of International Migratory Bird Day. Guided activities include:

• 8-12 - Steve Emmons will conduct a bird walk into an area of the refuge that is normally off-limits. We expect to see variety of resident and migrant species, and with luck, a Golden Eagle nest.
• 10-12 - For more novice birders, there will be a guided walk in the wetlands walk area.
• 12:30-2:30 - Demonstrations including: monitoring songbirds with recorders and videos, mist netting and bird banding.

Normally the visitor center is closed at this time of year, but it will be open for this occasion with a number of special displays. There will also be activities, including building nest boxes and feeders. Admission to the refuge (normally $3.50) will be free! Snacks and drinks will available. It's a good idea to take water, as it can be hot there at this time of year. Mosquito repellant and long pants are also a good idea.
