Upcoming Field Trips

Sat. Feb. 21 - The Chico Oxidation Ponds and the Sacramento River. Meet at the Chico Creek Nature Center at 7:45 or at the Oxidation Ponds at 8:15. Dress appropriately. We'll probably have lunch at Scotty's, so bring some cash if you want to buy lunch, otherwise bring your own food & drink. There should be a good representation of ducks, some shorebirds and who knows what passerines and Hawks might turn up. [Image]

[Image] Sat. Feb. 28 - Richard Redmond will lead a trip to Yolo County to look for Mountain Plover and explore the Putah Creek area. We're not particularly familiar with some of the areas we'll be going, so there is no set itinerary as yet - be prepared for anything! We'll meet at 7:30 AM at the Chico Park & Ride. Dress appropriately. Restaurants may be available, but you may want to pack some food just in case.

March 6,7and 8 - Honey Lake and Environs. We'll meet at the Chico Park and Ride on Friday at 5 p.m. We'll dine in Susanville and those who wish to camp can do so at the Fleming unit at Honey Lake, or there are motels in Susanville. We'll meet on Saturday morning at 7 AM at the 7 Acre Restaurant in Litchfield for a day of Raptors and Waterfowl. Sunday we'll meet the corner of Mapes Rd. and Highway 395 to go look for Sage Grouse. The area near the Sage Grouse lek are has also turned up Pronghorn Antelope, Sage Thrashers and (last year) a Tree Sparrow. The rest of the day will be spent touring Janesville and the Biz Johnson Trail in Susanville.
