Central Valley Birding Club outing comes to Butte County

The Central Valley Birding Club invites everyone to attend a three-day Birding frenzy in the Oroville area of Butte County on Presidents Day Weekend (Feb 14-16).

On Saturday, following morning field trips in the Oroville area, there will be an afternoon meeting of the CVBC at Butte College, including informative talks on Black Rails, Central Valley populations of Swans and Geese, Mountain Plovers and more. We will meet on Saturday morning at the Cornucopia Restaurant in Oroville (515 Montgomery Street; take the Montgomery Street exit off Highway 70 and go east) no later than 8:30 AM (get there earlier if you want to get breakfast first). After the morning field trip we will be back at the restaurant at 12:00 noon to meet late arrivals.

Sunday will be a full day of field trips, primarily to view waterfowl concentrations in the Rice Country of Butte County, followed by a Monday morning trip to the Spenceville Wildlife Area to visit sites occupied by Black Rails and attempt to hear (and perhaps see?) these elusive critters.

This exciting weekend event is open to all (meals and lodging are not provided). You can come for one, two or all three days. For more details call Tim Manolis at (916) 485-9009, or check out the CVBC web site. Details of meeting times & places for Sunday and Monday were not available at press time, but will probably be decided on Saturday. The local contact the weekend of the meeting will be Richard Redmond, 893-5382.
