Chico Christmas Bird Count

All levels of birders are welcome. Bring warm clothes, hiking shoes, lunch, bird books and binoculars. You will be assigned an area and spend the day counting birds in this area. RSVPs encouraged! Honey Lake Christmas Bird Count

This Christmas Bird Count is not for the faint of heart! Temperatures have ranged from single digits to 45-50F, so make sure to pack warm clothing! We will be staying Thursday night and leaving Saturday morning. Rare birds over the last couple years have been Lapland and Chestnut-collared Longspur, American Tree Sparrow, and Long-tailed Duck to name a few. Please RSVP for more information!

Oroville Christmas Bird Count

We will get a personal and up close view of the winter waterfowl migration at the Chico Oxidation Ponds, west of Chico. Come and get a first-hand look at our dabblers from Alaska and Canada: Northern Pintail, Cinnamon Teal, Hooded Merganser, Green-winged and Blue-winged Teal and possibly some unexpected vagrants! Raptor Run!

Join us in our search for raptors in Butte County! We will be traveling by car to Cottonwood Rd, then the Forebay, leading to Nelson Ave to view the returning hawks, eagles, falcons, and owls. Cottonwood Road boasts one of the best landscapes in Northern California for raptors. Ferruginous and Rough-legged Hawks are regular visitors and Peregrine and Prairie Falcons can be seen perched on many of the adjacent power poles.¬†Bring warm clothing, binoculars, spotting scopes, water, and walking shoes.…
